Possible treats to the internet

Introductions

In this assignment I have been ask to explain possible treats to the internet for a catalogue sales company called Egos and I’m going to explain what the data protection act is.

If there is no log on to the network this is a possible treat as this could lead to anyone being able to log on to the network and viewing or stealing  important information.

Data is only backed up once a month but needs to be backed up 1-2 times a day.

If data tapes are only kept safe in a locked plastic box this could be a treat to the data as anyone could just walk into Egos and lift this as there is no keypad on the entrance doors of this building to prevent anyone from walking in and lifting it.

The company is breaking the data protection rule because there not protecting customer’s details like account numbers, bank details, customer’s names and addresses.

It is a treat that all staff has access to other staffs account numbers, bank details, addresses and purchase history. There should only be certain people who are aloud access to this sort of information like the boss of the company.

The staff is discussing account details with other suppliers and address information over the telephone. This should not be aloud as it could be anyone on the phone and they are discussing account details which could end up leading to fraud.

Email is available to all staff so this could be a distraction to them as they will be sending emails instead of doing work. To fix this you could change the email settings so that emails can only be sent to certain people.

Users can visit any website they like because the IP address is not kept of sites visited by staff. This could be a possible treat as they could be on inappropriate sites or they could be on social networking sites and not doing any work.

There is no firewall on the computers so this means that there is nothing to block the computers from getting viruses. For example this happens when you go on to inappropriate sites where there is viruses which could mess you computer system up.

There is no restriction on the time staff are aloud on the internet so this means they can be on it 24-7 instead of working. The settings for the internet need to be changed where you could have a certain time your aloud on the internet instead of being on 24-7.

Downloads are not monitor so this is a treat to the company because a member of staff can download anything they want which may not have nothing to do with work. Also the computer will get viruses from downloading stuff as there is no firewall set up to protect this from happening.

The entrance doors into the Egos building have no keypads so anyone can get in. This means that anyone can just walk into the building pretending to work there which is a treat as they can steal important stuff.
